The lost city of Etzanoa, which once housed over 20,000 people between 1450 and 1700, has begun to be unearthed by archaeologists in southern Kansas on the banks of the Walnut and Arkansas Rivers. The site is believed to be the second largest in the country after Cahokia in Illinois. Archaeologists deduced the location of the city from descriptions given of the area by Spanish explorers 400 years ago that were recently re-translated for additional clarity by scholars at UC Berkeley.
